Improving Diabetes Support
Managing insulin therapy for diabetic patients is a complex, high-stakes process. Endocrinologists must make dosing decisions based on a combination of current glucose data, lifestyle factors, and medication schedules—and communicate that clearly to patients.
I led the design of Epic’s first-ever CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) integration from 0→1, designing a native solution that integrates and visualizes device data directly into the EHR.

Challenge
Despite the widespread use of CGM devices among diabetic patients, Epic doesn’t offer native integration for CGM data. Endocrinologists often rely on manual workarounds—logging into vendor portals like Dexcom or Abbott, downloading AGP graphs, and uploading screenshots or PDFs into the patient's chart. This process is so outdated! It’s time-consuming, clutters the note, and pulls clinicians out of context during the visit.
Results
In April 2025, Epic signed a contract with Abbott to integrate LibreView's CGM data—and internally, we were planning for this integration for years. Epic’s MVP release, planned for November 2025, will be a major step forward in how clinicians view and trend glucose data.
While full visualization support won’t be included in the initial release, we’ve laid important groundwork—designing ways to display key metrics and make them easier to document over time. The result: less note bloat, more structured data that can be compared across the chart, and a significantly improved experience for clinicians in managing their patient's diabetes.
